Treatments for women
Brazilian doctor Ariel Haus carries out treatments at his clinics in London and Rio de Janeiro, using procedures such as skin peels, laser treatment and anti-wrinkle injections.
FACE & NECK:
From about the age of 35 wrinkles start to appear on a woman’s face, around the eyes, between the eyebrows and forehead, on the forehead and between the nose and mouth. All of this is due to the body’s reduced ability to produce new collagen, which is the cause of all the greatest changes that occur to our skin as we age. Before her mid-30’s a woman produces sufficient collagen to ensure firm and toned facial skin. Afterwards, however from the body’s production of collagen starts to slow down, and reduces by about 50% during our lifetime.
Dr. Haus is able to reverse facial lines through a variety of treatments. The treatment that Brazilian doctor Ariel Haus uses will depend on whether the wrinkles are reversible, or because of their depth, are permanent.
Dr Haus uses muscle relaxants containing botulinum toxin (e.g. Botox or Dysport), which are injected intra muscular using a fine needle to produce almost immediate results for patients with facial wrinkles. Botulinum toxin is a prescription only medicine in the United Kingdom, and Dr. Haus ensures that it is an appropriate prescriptive prior to treatment. In Dr. Haus’ experience, the best results are achieved when botulinum toxin is used to treat wrinkles on the forehead and in the region between the eyebrows (glabella) and around the corners of the eyes (crows feet). Muscle relaxants, if used appropriately over a period of time, can also delay the appearance of what are sometimes known as programmed lines, because they slow down the use of the facial muscles that cause such lines. Dr. Haus prides himself on his technique in using muscle relaxants and dermal fillers to produces discrete, yet positive results that do not alter his patients’ natural appearance. This means that patients look relaxed rather than ‘frozen or fixed’ following a treatment with botulinum toxin. Patients notice the effect of the muscle relaxant within the first 48 hours after treatment. This increases significantly in the 10 to 15 days after the treatment. While there are no hard and fast rules, in most patients, the effect of a treatment lasts for between 3 to 4 months, at which point further treatment may be necessary. In most patients, the effects of injections of muscle relaxants are cumulative, which means that the decreased muscle activity will in time mean that the desired effect can be obtained in subsequent treatments, with lower doses of botulinum.
Dr. Haus can also use botulinum toxin as a preventative treatment on areas where evidence of wrinkles may not yet be visible. This reduces the possibility of new or increased lines appearing in the future. Many people in Dr. Haus’ native Brazil are admired for their youthful appearance. They know the value of preventative skin care and frequently start cosmetic treatments before facial lines or other visible effects of aging start to appear on their skin.
Botulinum toxin can also be used to treat Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating on the face, armpits, hands and lines in the neck). Botulinum toxin when used to treat Hyperhidrosis works as it does in treating facial lines and wrinkles, except it is injected intra dermis to slow down the glands that are responsible for the excessive sweating. Dr. Haus encourages patients with Hyperhidrosis to contact him so that he can determine whether treatment with botulinum toxin is appropriate for them.
Patients are usually able to resume normal activities immediately following treatment with botulinum toxin. But Dr. Haus will always ensure that his patients are properly advised about steps they should take to ensure best results. Some patients may require a ‘top up’ treatment shortly after the initial treatment and Dr. Haus will happily do this at no extra charge.
Laser technology can be used to treat a variety of skin conditions to achieve outstanding results.
Dr. Haus uses ablative and non-ablative laser technology to safely and effectively:
- Remove spider veins or thread veins (Rosacea) in the cheeks, around the nostrils and the chin,
- Decrease superficial wrinkles on the face, cleavage and neckline and on the back of hands,
- Remove superficial spots caused by aging or sun damage,
Acne scarring, - Stimulate the regeneration of collagen to improve skin elasticity and texture,
- Remove unwanted hair and tattoos.
An ablative laser makes multiple microscopic holes or punctures in the dermis of the skin, whereas a non-ablative laser treatment will not result in any puncturing of the skin's dermis. As you would expect an ablative laser treatment will involve a longer healing period but will produce better and longer lasting results. Patient safety is the foremost consideration for Dr Haus in his selection of the laser machines that are used in his clinic and they are manufactured by an industry leader recognised for its innovation and product development. The laser machines employed by Dr Haus in his clinic can be safely used on all skin colours.
Following treatment with a laser, a patient’s skin may be sensitive to a variety of conditions. This will vary according to the actual laser treatment, the condition and the skin of the patient on the area of the body that was treated. A high strength sun block cream must be applied to any treated areas and typically there will be one other post-treatment protocol to be followed. Dr. Haus will advise his patients on the post-treatment protocol that is best suited to them to ensure that the best results are achieved and the risk of complication is minimised.
All new patients are required to have a patch test 24 hours before laser treatment can be carried out.
A skin peel administered by Dr. Haus involves applying a liquid, which usually contains retinol, jesner or salicylic acid to the patients’ face. This promotes skin peeling, leading to re-epitelisation and cell renewal. It also stimulates collagen production. This improves the texture of the skin and decreases ‘expression lines’. Once applied, the solution is rinsed off at home or allowed to ‘wear off’ naturally. A skin peel works to remove layers of skin. For superficial peels only one layer of skin will be removed but for deeper peels, more layers will be removed. Following the treatment the skin surface is clear and smooth, pores are closed and collagen growth is stimulated, all of which combines to give the skin a healthy glow.
Patients who have a big event or party frequently choose to make the extra effort to look their best by having a superficial skin peel a few days in advance. Deeper peels are appropriate for patients with skin damaged by the sun or as a result of aging. Patients equate the sensation of a skin peel to the feeling of wearing heavy make up or a slight tingling effect on the skin.
The majority of patients can have a skin peel treatment without any preparation and experience the effects of the peel in 48 to 72 hours. During this time patients are advised to avoid exposure to direct sunlight or protect themselves with a high quality sun block cream. Dr. Haus will advise his patients on the post treatment regime that is best suited for them to ensure that they obtain the best results from their treatment. Once the peeling has stopped, the skin’s appearance is noticeably improved, typically for at least a month. Deeper skin peels will produce results that last much longer and Dr. Haus will happily discuss with each patient the level of skin peel that is right for them.
Skin Peels can also be used to treat blemishes and spots on the hands and forearms caused by sun damage and ageing.
Dermal fillers in the face, lips and hands:
Dermal Fillers are used for volume replacement and facial remodelling to counter the effects of aging. As a woman ages the reduced amount of collagen in her skin means that the skin in the cheeks, chin, jawline and nose will start to lose its structure and sag. This can lead to the appearance of deep lines that are not reversible by the use of other treatments such as botulinum or skin peels. The appearance of the lips will also change as a woman ages, due to the thinning of vermillion and the loss of collagen in the lips. Smoking, alcohol consumption and sun damage all worsen this situation. Through the use of quality dermal fillers such as Restylane and Juvaderm, Dr. Haus can safely add volume to the face and lips to reverse these effects of aging.

The actual treatment that Dr. Haus recommends will depend on the individual circumstances of the patient and the area to be treated, but in each case, the results will be visible immediately.
In Dr. Haus’ experience dermal fillers will achieve excellent results when used to add volume to the lips, the area between the nose and corners of the mouth (nasogenal) and the cheekbones (malar).
Dermal fillers such as Restylane consist of sterile gels that comprise stabilised non-animal based hyaluronic acid. The products are injected into the skin using a thin needle to correct lines, wrinkles and folds in the face, to sculpt lips and form facial contours. Whilst patients are able to resume their normal activities after treatment with dermal fillers there are some precautions that must be taken and Dr. Haus will advise his patients on the precautions they should take in the 24 hours following treatment.

Dermaroller Treatments - The Genuine Dermaroller™ medical device produces thousands of micro-medical needle-columns in the skin. Each column penetrates into the dermis of the skin and is approximately 0.1mm in width. The columns close rapidly enabling the skin to recover quickly - often in the same day. Dr. Haus will use a topical anaesthetic to numb the skin making the procedure comfortable; it will normally take up to 30 minutes for the topical anaesthetic to work and 20 - 30 minutes for the Genuine Dermaroller™ Therapy procedure.
After this safe and effective procedure your body will start to naturally regenerate and repair the skin- new collagen is formed and new skin cells generated whilst blood supply is also enhanced. Optimal results will be visible after 6 weeks and the long lasting enhancement will give you a refreshed natural glow. Usually a total of only three Dermaroller procedures are required.
Target Areas For Maximum Results Are:
- Acne Scars
- Stretch Marks
- Aged Skin
- Sun Damaged Skin
- Facial Lines
- Facial Wrinkles
If you simply want a natural approach to treating the above problems with your skin then Dermaroller is the answer.

Carboxytherapy is a relatively new treatment in the UK but Dr Haus first started using Carboxytherapy at his clinic in Brazil a number of years ago. Carboxytherapy involves the injection of a small amount of carbon dioxide gas just beneath the skin's surface and it delivers results by increasing the oxygen flow to the target area. Carbon dioxide is produced by the body naturally, and should not be confused with the potentially fatal carbon monoxide.
Carboxytherapy is a popular choice for the treatment of dark under-eye circles also known as ‘bags’, which can be hereditary or a sign of an unhealthy lifestyle - in both cases the darkness around the eyes is caused by poor circulation beneath the lower eyelids. A minimally-invasive treatment that is virtually painless, carboxytherapy treatments can be performed in around 5 minutes with no downtime afterwards. Following treatment the skin texture and contour around the eyes will improve and in most patients the under-eye circles will look to have completely disappeared. Between 2-4 treatments are usually required, all spaced one week apart.
ARMS, STOMACH, THIGHS & BUTTOCKS:
Velashape is the latest technology that is used to safely treat cellulite and improve skin elasticity.
The swelling of fat storage cells called adipocyte’s causes cellulite. An adipocyte can swell up to 60 time’s it’s initial volume. When these cells become saturated they can then activate additional storage cells which can also swell up. In order to accommodate the increased size of the fat storage cells, the skin stretches and the surface becomes dimpled.
Dr. Haus frequently uses Velashape, which is the latest combination of infrared, laser and suction technology, to successfully reduce cellulite and improve skin elasticity. Following treatment with Velashape, the skin in treated areas will appear contoured and the surface will be much smoother than prior to treatment. The effects of Velashape treatments are cumulative and most patients will notice a reduction in flaccidity and improved skin tone after their 3rd treatment. On average most patients will achieve a circumferential reduction of between 1cm - 7.2cm after 6 treatments.
The Evening Standard in London has described a Velashape treatment with Dr. Haus as a bit like having ‘a mini hoover applied to your stomach’. Velashape can be used to reduce cellulite and improve skin elasticity in the thighs, buttocks, neck, upper arms and stomach.

Excess hair is an extremely common problem that can affect both women and men. Laser hair removal offers countless advantages when compared with traditional treatments that may have only temporary results, such as the use of wax, shaving or electrolysis. Laser depilation is a method to eliminate hair, which uses laser ray emission to burn the hairs to the ‘root’. Laser depilation may be applied to any part of the body. A minimum of 3 to 5 sessions is required and the number of visits and intervals will depend on the area being treated. There are a variety of different types of laser and care must be taken to ensure that the laser is appropriate for the skin type of the patient. Dr. Haus treat patients with all types of skin, including those with olive, Asian and dark skin, who might otherwise be concerned about marking. Laser depilation is definitive for most skin treated, but there will always be a chance that hair will grow back in some patients. None of the laser or pulsated light equipment available today is capable of carrying out definitive or permanent hair removal. However with minor maintenance, most patients will experience near total depilation following treatment with laser technology. This maintenance can be carried out once a year, or in some cases, once every 2 to 3 years.
Carboxytherapy is a relatively new treatment in the UK but has been popular with patients in Dr Haus' native Brazil for many years.
Carboxytherapy is a popular choice for the treatment of stretch marks on the stomach and legs. Stretch marks are often the result of the rapid stretching of the skin associated with rapid growth (common in puberty) or weight gain (e.g. pregnancy or rapid gain of fat). Stretch marks may also be influenced by hormonal changes associated with puberty or pregnancy.
A minimally-invasive treatment that is virtually painless, it can be done in around 5 minutes. Following treatment the skin texture will improve and the visible appearance of the stretch marks. Between 6-12 Carboxytherapy treatments are usually required for stretch marks, all spaced one week apart. This a treatment that is suitable for all skin types and involves no downtime following the treatment.
